February 2012
Someone should probably kick me for being stupid about now.
Just saying.
This is one of those nights where I make a cup of tea and watch a few movies.
I need to have more nights like that. But no, arguing with misguided persons on the interblag, instead.
Again.
>_>
I’m not trying to attack anyone.
As someone who’s had a lot of body issues myself, and has also known several people who have or have had eating disorders (including family members, FYI), I personally feel that it’s more important, and more useful, to let someone know that you think they are beautiful as is and that the size of their waist or how much they weigh shouldn’t define them. It’s hard to do that while also providing weight-loss tips, especially ones that are borderline dubious; most people can’t live safely on 1200 calories and also exercise.
I’m not really sure how I feel about this. I acknowledge that you mean well for this person, but I also don’t think that what you’re saying will necessarily facilitate that feeling.
Where the girl was trying to lose weight and I gave her advice.
For starters, she’s not anorexic, 130lbs is not anorexic, it’s how much I weigh and she doesn’t even look anorexic. Now, she may be inclined to become anorexic, but we don’t know that and she might be really offended by someone calling her that if she’s not. There’s no harm in trying to lose ten pounds or improve your fitness provided you do it correctly.
Also, girls who replied to it (I didn’t enable answers), what you did is called body shaming, you follow a blog based on making people feel better about themselves (even if they want to lose a few pounds) and you’re telling people how they should look or that they shouldn’t lose weight? That’s not correct and I don’t want it here, okay?
EDIT: One or two of you were trying to be nice, though. So, Thank you for that.
Uh, hey. Just because someone doesn’t look anorexic doesn’t mean that they don’t have an eating disorder.
We do know that she has one; if you’d actually taken the time to read the blog that she posted from, she states that she has struggled with one for some time.
I don’t think we should tell her how she should look (that’s her decision), and I think it’s good that you made her aware that 500 calories per day is neither safe nor healthy. I just don’t feel as though you’re reacting to both this person and the people who are trying to raise your awareness of the situation in a particularly courteous or understanding way. Please take a few minutes to think before you snap at us all, okay?
